The design of this recent 2020 ATB release commemorates Weir’s Farm, named after American impressionist painter Julian Alden Weir upon the location’s dedication as a historical site in 1990. Weir converted this farm into a retreat for himself and fellow artists back in 1882, after he arrived from New York. Considered an artist sanctuary, this farm contains acres of beautiful gardens, trees, orchards, fields, ponds, and stone, as well as historic structures like houses, studios, and barns. Additionally, Weir’s farm boasts hundreds of historic paintings and hosts many “Art in the Park” Programs, which give participants art lessons and free art supplies. As one of the two places in the National Park Service devoted to the visual arts, this National Historic Site continues to inspire artists today.

The obverse of this silver coin features the same design seen on quarters for over 80 years. George Washington ‘s bust faces left, surrounded by inscriptions.

The reverse showcases an artist painting on a canvas in a field of grass outside Weir’s studio at Weir Farm. This design was inspired by images of the studio as well as Weir’s paintings themselves.
