Australian Silver Koala Coins

The Australian Koala Silver Coin is a special limited edition coin produced by the Perth Mint, the oldest Australian mint which manufactures gold and silver coins. The Koala Silver Coin is a part of the Wildlife series, which feature Australian national animals. Australia’s wildlife is truly unique since 80% of its inhabitants can be found only in this country’s territory, like the kookaburra which is also featured on Perth Mint’s silver coins.

The first Silver Koala coin was released in 2007 and since then its popularity is continuously increasing. Each coin is struck of 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, being available in four sizes: ½ oz., 1 oz., 10 oz. and 1 kg with the face value of half-dollar, $1, $10 or $30 Australian dollars. The Silver Koala was produced to commemorate one of the most iconic Australian animals. The cuddly marsupial is depicted on the reverse side of the silver coin perched in a eucalyptus tree, incorporated by the “P” mintmark of Perth Mint. Each year the reverse design is changed with another unique koala image, making the Koala coin a great and interesting option for passionate collectors.

The 2009 Koala Silver Coin features a koala clutching a tree branch while the 2011 depiction features a mother koala with her baby koala or Joey inquisitively perched a tree. The 2016 Silver Koala coin represents a koala joyfully stepping on a tree branch. The obverse side of the Australian Koala coin features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sketched by the remarkable artist Ian Rank-Broadley. Australian Silver Koalas are minted upon request. This is why their issued number limit varies from year to year. This beautiful coin is an excellent opportunity for diversifying your investment or collection portfolio, or as a gift idea for your beloved ones.
