What are Gold Rounds?

Gold rounds are an excellent investment choice for those who don’t prefer gold bars, due to their standard form, or gold coins, because of their premiums, which are sometimes quite high. Moreover, since bars are usually produced in larger weights, such as 5 oz., 10 oz. or 1 kilo, they are mostly preferred by investors who make large acquisitions and/or store their bullion in secured vaults or bullion facilities. Gold rounds are more flexible bullion options since they usually come in 1 oz. or fractional weights, like 1/2 oz., ¼ oz., and 1/10 oz., making them highly attractive to various investors. Sometimes, gold rounds are also issued in larger weights, of 2 oz., 5 oz., or 10 oz., which makes them an excellent substitute for common gold bars.

Gold Rounds vs Coins

Despite the fact that rounds look almost identical as coins, (offered as 1 gram gold rounds or 1 oz. gold rounds), they aren’t the same. Rounds are manufactured only by private mints, not by government mints, which means that they do not carry face values. Rounds are minted as commemorative items, with original, creative designs or images that recreate old coins, yet some of them carry only the mint brand logo or inscription on their both sides. Sometimes, in addition to the logo, the rounds also bear the gold’s purity and weight. Also, in most cases, rounds are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity or come sealed in protective assay cards.

Why should you consider Buying Gold Rounds?

There are various reasons that may convince you to buy gold rounds instead of gold bars and coins. First, gold rounds are sometimes seen as a more affordable investment option because of their lower premium prices and smaller sizes. Some collectors prefer 1 oz. and fractional gold rounds over gold bars simply because rounds are easier to handle and trade in low quantities. Second, gold rounds have uniform shapes and sizes, making them simple to be counted, stacked and stored in tubes, especially if you also collect coins of the same size. Some investors prefer the standard 1 oz. size or small rounds as they are easier to be stored, yet others invest in larger rounds due to their high gold content.
