The original 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle emerged from President Theodore Roosevelt's effort to elevate the artistic quality of American coinage. Roosevelt selected acclaimed sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens to redesign the nation's $20 gold piece. Saint-Gaudens created a dramatic image of Liberty advancing forward with a torch and olive branch, while a soaring eagle dominates the reverse. 

Rather than simply duplicating the gold coin, the 1 oz .999 fine silver medal reinterprets its artistic themes for 2026. Liberty appears carrying her familiar torch and olive branch, surrounded by 13 stars representing the original colonies. The reverse transforms the soaring eagle motif by incorporating the American flag into the eagle's wings as it rises above the Sun. Together, the two pieces connect historic American coinage with contemporary U.S. Mint artistry, presenting Saint-Gaudens' celebrated design alongside a modern companion created specifically for the nation's 250th anniversary.

Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"  and the denomination.
• Silver Medal Design: obverse shows a modern reinterpretation of Liberty, holding a brightly burning torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. A ring of stars arches along the left border, while sun rays emanate behind her portrait with the inscription "LIBERTY" across the top and the Roman numeral year "MMXXVI". Reverse: Depicts a majestic bald eagle in flight whose outstretched wings seamlessly transform into a waving American flag. Sun rays radiate behind the eagle above a smooth horizon, framed by the top inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
