2019 5 oz Silver America the Beautiful ATB Massachusetts Lowell National Historical Park Coin

Almost 10 years ago the United States Mint ushered in an exciting new coin program. Authorized by America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008, this program planned for the production of 56 silver quarters depicting US National parks and other notable US sites. Still produced a decade later, the “America the Beautiful” quarters series remains just as popular today.  The important places depicted on these coins continue to be released in the order in which they were first established as a national park or historic site. Five new and exciting quarter designs have been produced each year since 2010. The states/territories represented by the new 2019 releases include Texas, Idaho, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and Massachusetts.

Bullion Exchanges happily introduces the 2019 5 oz Silver America the Beautiful ATB Massachusetts Lowell National Historical Park Coin, the 46th coin in the ATB series. The design by Joel Iskowitz depicts a “Mill Girl” from Lowell, MA working at a power loom. These mill girls were young women who left home to work in the mills, where they lived together in supervised boarding houses and earned cash wages. These industrial women frequently fought for better working conditions and advocated for increased education. Additionally, the mill girls were known to support the abolition of slavery as well. Lowell Historical National Park serves to preserve their memory and educate future generations about these girls’ contributions to the country during the Industrial Revolution.

The obverse of the silver coin depicts President George Washington’s bust looking left, surrounded by inscriptions. The reverse features a Mill girl, hard at work on her circular power loom. The Boott Mill Clock Tower, which was founded by Lowell Mill leader Kirk Boott, appears in the background.

Customer Reviews

Lowell is the classic New England "mill town". Great addition to the ATB series, recognizing the important, historical contribution to America's Textile Industry.
