1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar $1 VF

Own a legendary piece of American frontier coinage with the 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar $1 VF. Struck at the famed Carson City Mint (CC mintmark), this early-year Morgan Dollar is offered in Very Fine (VF) condition, showing moderate circulation wear while retaining strong design detail and bold eye appeal.

The Morgan Silver Dollar series was introduced in 1878 following the passage of the Bland–Allison Act, which required the U.S. Treasury to purchase large amounts of silver and strike it into silver dollars. Designed by British-born engraver George T. Morgan, the coin features Liberty in profile on the obverse and a powerful American eagle on the reverse.

The Carson City Mint operated from 1870 to 1893 and produced coins in relatively limited quantities compared to other mints. Located near Nevada’s rich Comstock Lode silver deposits, Carson City issues have become some of the most desirable coins in the Morgan Dollar series. The 1878-CC represents one of the first Morgan Dollars struck at this historic Western mint, making it especially appealing to collectors.

The obverse showcases Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with cotton and wheat, symbolizing American unity between agriculture and industry. The reverse features a detailed eagle with outstretched wings, clutching arrows and an olive branch, with the distinctive “CC” mintmark beneath the wreath.

Coin Features:

  • Contains 0.7734 troy oz of .900 fine silver
  • Very Fine condition
  • Struck by the US Mint at the Carson City facility (CC mintmark)
  • Face value of $1 USD backed by the US government
  • Individual coins come in protective plastic coin flips
  • Obverse: Shows the George T Morgan illustration of a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty with her Liberty Cap. Her cap is decorated with two heads of wheat and two cotton blossoms. Thirteen stars appear on the border to represent the original colonies. Inscriptions: “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and the year of mintage flank the main device on the top and bottom.
  • Reverse: Features a majestic bald eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle clutches an olive branch and arrows in its talons to symbolize peace and preparedness. Inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
