The Morgan silver dollar coins were minted from 1878-1904 and for one last year in 1921. Following that, the Peace silver dollar was struck from 1921-1935 as the successor to the Morgan. While the Morgan dollar is associated with the Comstock Lode and helping the fight in WWI, the Peace dollar is a celebration of the victory in the War to End All Wars. Because millions of Morgan dollar coins were lost in the war effort, one stipulation of the Pittman Act was to replace all the coins after the end of WWI. As a result, the US Mint held a design contest for the Peace dollar, which Anthony de Francisci won. Because of some minor design and technical issues, the Morgan dollar was once again minted in 1921 briefly before being replaced by the Peace dollar towards the end of the year. You can buy silver dollars like these today easily from Bullion Exchanges to own a timeless piece of US history.

The Morgan dollar, designed by George T Morgan, displays Lady Liberty wearing a cap with two cotton blossoms and two heads of wheat on the obverse. The reverse showcases a powerful eagle with its wings spread wide as it carries arrows and an olive branch. Both sides carry inscriptions.

The Peace dollar by de Francisci also displays a portrayal of Lady Liberty facing the left side of the coin. She wears a radiate crown that is reminiscent of the one found on the Statue of Liberty. The reverse bears an image of a bald eagle at sunrise, perched atop a rock with an olive branch to represent a new age of peace. Both sides carry inscriptions.
