The Invention of the Light Bulb

In 1809, Humphry Davy was there to demonstrate the first electric lamp over 10,000 lumens. He would later create the miner’s safety lamp. By 1841, arc-lighting was in effect. This electric arc was put into a tube by glassblower Heinrich Geissler in 1856. In 1875, Henry Woodward from Canada patented an electric light bulb. Meanwhile, below the Canadian border, Thomas Edison was experimenting with carbon filaments. He used the patent information by Henry Woodward to assist with his final patent. This was the first commercially viable light bulb. It was in the file by 1879.
