In 1982 the first gold coin became available. In 1983 the first silver coin went on the market. The Chinese Panda program is one of the most highly anticipated series on the precious metals market. Coin enthusiasts and numismatists all over the world anxiously await each coin release. This is due to their unique reverse designs that depict a new panda image each year.  (This is except for the 2001 and 2002 that share the same design).

The People’s Bank of China announces that the silver pandas will be available as of the 28th of October

The coins will reach the US bullion market close to mid-December. The bank also announces this year’s design of the reverse side of the coin. It will be a single panda eating a bamboo branch while sitting down with a bamboo background. This lovely image is surrounded by the face value of the coin, as well as its purity and weight. The 2017 reverse image is reminiscent of the 2015-coin edition. This is because it contains the same elements yet from the opposite perspective. Some sources state that this year’s design is courtesy of a new mint designer. Yet this information is however to be confirmed.   2017 Chinese Silver Pandas

The renowned Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests is featured on the obverse side of the coin. The Hall of Prayer is in the Taoist Temple of Heaven from Beijing. Also on the obverse are the inscriptions "中华人民共和国." These are the Chinese characters for “The People’s Republic of China” and the mintage year “2017.”
