As the ninth release in the Chibi Coin Collection from the New Zealand Mint, the Green Lantern follows in the footsteps of other DC Heroes such as Wonder Woman and The Flash. Created in 1940, The Green Lantern was originally a railroad engineer named Adam Scott. He received his powers from a magical ring he crafted after discovering a magical lantern. The ring had to be charged every day by touching it to that lantern, otherwise, it would not work. In 1959, the Green Lantern received a new backstory. Hal Jordan, a former combat pilot, was gifted the ring from a dying alien. Soon after, he was commissioned as an officer in the Green Lantern Corps. This special force was tasked with keeping the peace across the universe under the instruction of the Guardians of the Universe. One of the original founders of the Justice Society of America, the Green Lantern will continue to light up the darkness for years to come.

The obverse of the Silver Green Lantern Chibi Coin includes the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II wearing her royal diadem. Inscriptions include the Queen’s name, legal tender, country, year, face value, weight, purity, and copyright.
