Please note, this is a bullion coin. Due to its mass production, it may exhibit slight imperfections.

This new amazing release from New Zealand Mint features an image of Mickey Mouse from his historical first film, "Steamboat Willie" released in 1928. This unique coin produced from the .999 fine silver, with only 250,000 worldwide, that makes it a rare collectible for collectors and investors.

The obverse of the coin shows the profile of Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TWO DOLLARS,” “2017.” Her Majesty’s effigy appears on all New Zealand coinage, with this particular fourth-generation depiction created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. The reverse of the coin features the iconic moment Mickey first found his way onto a film, which depicts him gleefully steering a ship through the waters.

There is an identical version of this coin struck in gold.

Mickey Mouse is one of the most recognizable characters around the world. In fact, even Mickey’s ears are legendary among all ages and places. Walt Disney built a true empire and Mickey was the foundation. Many people remember Mickey from Disney’s original hand-drawn cartoons, which took hours and hours of painstaking work to complete.

“Steamboat Willie” is an American animated short film directed by Walt Disney and UB Iwerks. This black and white film was considered as a debut of Mickey Mouse and his girlfriend Minnie. Mickey pilots a river steamboat, suggesting himself as the captain. Minnie Mouse tries to catch a ride but misses the boat. Mickey has to use a hook to pick up Minnie and bring her aboard. Minnie drops her sheet music for “Turkey in the Straw” as Mickey lowers her onto the deck of the boat. A goat eats the sheet music and Mickey and Minnie, unable to get the music back, turn the goat into a music player. In the end, the captain of the ship does not approve of Mickey goofing off and puts him to work peeling potatoes as punishment.

The New Zealand Mint, located in Auckland, is the only operational mint facility in the country. However, it is not the sovereign mint of the nation but instead, operates as a private company. All New Zealand currency is struck by the Royal Canadian Mint and Royal Mint instead.
