Setting the Standard for Gold Coins

The British Gold Sovereign has an honorable reputation being the most carefully specified coin on the planet. The Royal British Government guarantees the weight and purity of these coins to the fifth decimal place. The Sovereign's incredible quality inspires its widespread label as the “chief coin in the world.” Additionally, these coins must past a test called "Trial of the Pyx". Passing this evaluation confirms newly minted coins do indeed conform to the required standards. Double Sovereign- Singular Design

The obverse of the Double Sovereign displays the latest portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by the talented English engraver Jody Clark. Her Majesty wears an ornate crown and elegant earrings. Inscriptions included on the obverse: “ELIZABETH II”, “DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF”.

The reverse of the Double Sovereign features the famous depiction of St George slaying the Dragon, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. According to legend, a dragon had been terrorizing a Libyan kingdom, only sated by human sacrifice chosen by a lottery system. When the king's own daughter drew the short straw, St George happened upon her as she prepared to perish.  Moved by her plight, Saint George then heroically slew the dragon, saving the kingdom from future torment. As a result, Saint George frequently appears in art, literature, and coinage as a way to honor his bravery. Inscriptions on the reverse include the designer’s initials and the year of mintage.
