An Auspicious Arrangement
The three main design elements of this incredibly unique coin are the dragon, phoenix, and figure eight. The Dragon, a symbol of power and strength in Chinese tradition, brings good fortune into the lives of many. Similarly, the Phoenix, a sign of virtue and harmony, frequently appears in decorations of weddings and royal ceremonies. Consequently, the Dragon and Phoenix are considered perfect matches in Feng Shui - Chinese geomancy. Lastly, the number 8 holds great meaning in Chinese culture. The pronunciation of 8 in Chinese, “Ba” sounds very much like the word “Fa”, which means fortune. This makes it an incredibly lucky number, believed to bring wealth and success. With all three of these elements combined into one coin, it is no mystery why this silver figure eight coin is already garnering much attention!
Phoenix and Dragon Design
The obverse of this coin features artist Jody Clark’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, facing towards the right. The Queen wears her royal crown and elegant jewelry. Inscriptions appear on the upper and lower sections of the 8. The reverse of the coin showcases a gorgeous design of a Dragon and Phoenix, surrounded by clouds. They face each other, while their bodies take up the entire surface of the coin, creating a symmetrical image. The Perth Mint “P” also appears on the reverse.
