This 2021-D Morgan Silver Dollar Centennial Coin 1921 100th Anniversary is one of the 2021 Morgan Silver Dollars that commemorate the centennial of Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars from 1921. Each of these coins is made of .999 fine silver and weighs .858 troy oz. Although this coin is not a commemorative coin, the US Mint struck it as legal tender for the US with a face value of $1 USD. Out of the entire range of pre-1965 silver coins, the Morgan and Peace silver dollars remain among the top collected US silver coins of all time. The Morgan silver dollars have a production history spanning from 1878 to 1904 and then in 1921. The silver used to make these coins originally came from the famous Comstock Lode. Additionally, the Morgan Silver Dollars were a major part of WWI as about half the entire mintage was melted down to support Great Britain’s economy under the Pittman Act. Great Britain bought the melted silver for $1 per troy oz through this act, but many Morgan silver dollars were lost as a result. Thankfully, another stipulation of the act authorized the replacement of the lost silver dollars post-WWI. So, the Peace silver dollars were created as the replacement, heralding the start of a new age of peace. Although the Peace dollars were meant to be issued in 1921, they were delayed due to a design error until the end of the year. This is why the Morgans saw one more year of mintage. This 2021 Morgan Silver Dollar commemorates the transition from the Morgan Silver Dollar to the Peace Silver Dollar.

The obverse displays Lady Liberty wearing the Liberty cap adorned with wheat and cotton blossoms. 

The reverse contains a rendition of the US Seal in use in 1921. This seal consists of a bald eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons. A wreath surrounds this central image.

• Reverse: Features the 1921 US Seal of a bald eagle carrying a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. A wreath mostly encircles the central eagle image. Inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, mintmark, and the denomination, “ONE DOLLAR”.
