2021-P Peace Silver Dollar High Relief Centennial Coin 1921 100th Anniversary

The US Mint observes the centennial of the silver dollar coins with the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar and Morgan Silver Dollars! The US Mint’s Peace Silver Dollars remain among the top, most collected US pre-1965 silver coins. This high relief 2021 Peace Silver Dollar was struck only by the Philadelphia Mint. Please note, this coin is not considered commemorative, but it is a legal tender coin for the US. Memorialize this incredible anniversary by expanding your collection with this 2021-P Peace Silver Dollar High Relief Centennial Coin 1921 100th Anniversary!

The Peace Silver Dollar commemorates the victory at the end of the “War to End All Wars,” WWI. It is also the successor to the prominent Morgan Silver Dollar. Reportedly, about half of the Morgan Silver Dollars were lost because of the Pittman Act which sought to support Great Britain’s failing economy during WWI. Consequently, this act also stated the Morgan Silver Dollars that were melted and sold to the British needed to be replaced. Therefore, the US had a competition to determine the new design for the silver dollar coin. Anthony de Francisci had his wife, Teresa Cafarelli de Francisci, model for Lady Liberty when he coined his winning design. However, there was a slight discrepancy regarding the image on the reverse of the Peace Dollar. The Eagle held a broken sword instead of an olive branch, which some objected was a mark of defeat rather than peace. Therefore, the Morgan Silver Dollars were restruck in 1921 until the end of the year. In December of 1921, the dies for striking the coins were finally ready with the updated image of the eagle and the olive branch. This 2021 Peace Silver Dollar commemorates the transition from the Morgan Silver Dollar to the Peace Silver Dollar in 1921.

The obverse and reverse of the 2021 Peace Silver Dollars will maintain the same original design. On top of that, the first few Peace Silver Dollars were struck with high relief, therefore the 2021 Peace Silver Dollars also feature high relief.
