The US Mint’s Peace silver dollars remain among the top US pre-1965 silver coins ever collected. The uncirculated 2021 Peace Silver Dollars were struck only at the US Mint’s Philadelphia location. Additionally, the US Mint struck this coin with .999 fine silver and it weighs .858 troy oz. Even though this coin is not considered a commemorative release, it is a legal tender coin for the US with a face value of $1 USD. The Peace silver dollar commemorates the victory at the end of the “War to End All Wars.” It is also the successor to the prominent Morgan silver dollar. Reportedly, about half of the Morgan silver dollars were lost because of the Pittman Act to help Great Britain’s economy during WWI. In order to rebuild the coin supply, the act also stated the melted Morgan silver dollars needed to be replaced. Therefore, the US held a competition to find the new design for the silver dollar coin. Anthony de Francisci was the winning artist. His wife, Teresa Cafarelli de Francisci, modeled for his Lady Liberty when he created his design. However, there was a slight discrepancy regarding the image on the reverse of the Peace Dollar. The Eagle on the reverse held a broken sword instead of an olive branch, which many considered a mark of defeat, not peace. Therefore, the Morgan silver dollar design was modified to show the eagle with just an olive branch instead before being used in December 1921. This 2021 Morgan silver dollar commemorates the transition from the Morgan silver dollar to the Peace silver dollar.

The obverse of the 2021 Peace silver dollar coin displays Lady Liberty as styled by de Francisci. Liberty looks to the left of the coin while wearing an impressive, pointed tiara, symbolic of the rays of the sun. Her hair is in a loose bun secured at the back of her head. 

The reverse of the silver dollar coin displays the bald eagle design also by de Francisci. The eagle stands atop a rocky peak with an olive branch in its talons. It watches the sunrise on a new era of peace.
