The V75 privy mark is the first privy mark on any of the Silver and Gold Eagle coins. The “V” on the American Gold Eagle coin means “Victory,” and the “75” indicates the anniversary of WWII’s official end. Additionally, the privy mark is shaped like the Rainbow Pool in Washington DC, which was integrated into the World War II Memorial in 2004. This memorial was dedicated by former President George W Bush. You may have seen this privy mark on other US Mint coins! With this new release, the American Gold Eagle salutes the end of WWII. 

The obverse of this WWII Gold Eagle continues to feature the Augustus Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty design. She moves towards the viewer while carrying a torch and a branch. Her hair and clothes undulate in the wind. The Capitol building behind her is visible and backlit by the sunrise. Stars make up the coin’s border. Additionally, the special edition V75 privy mark and W mintmark appear on this side.

The WWII Gold Eagle’s reverse contains Miley Busiek’s “Family of Eagles” illustration, and this is one of the final coins to bear this illustration. Here, a parent eagle with an olive branch returns to its nest where its partner nests with their hatchlings. This reverse will be discontinued in 2021.
