Engraver John Mercanti designed the coin’s reverse, which displays the heraldic American eagle behind a striped shield. Here, the eagle is shown with its wings beautifully stretched out wide while holding a ribbon in its beak. The majestic bird of prey clutches olive branches and arrows in its large talons.
