Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore held many titles in his lifetime, including Head Boy, Grand Sorcerer, and Supreme Mugwump. However, he is most recognized as the Headmaster of Hogwarts and Harry Potter’s wise (and often enigmatic) mentor. As a young wizard growing up in the late 1800s, he persevered through the imprisonment and death of his father, as well as the death of his mother Kendra, and the subsequent death of his sister, Ariana. Ariana’s death affected him the hardest, as it resulted from a fight between Albus, his brother Aberforth, and his close friend, Gellert Grindelwald. Dumbledore’s later defeat of Grindelwald in 1945 went down in wizarding history as the most intense magical duel ever fought. Though Dumbledore started his teaching career at Hogwarts in the early 1900s, he eventually rose in rank to become the Headmaster in the mid-1960s. Once Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, began attending Hogwarts in 1991, Albus Dumbledore often provided him with sage advice and notably took on a guardian-like role in the young wizard’s life. Tragically, during the Second Wizarding War, Dumbledore met his end in the Battle of the Astronomy Tower. However, his influence and insight continued to aid Harry in his quest to ultimately defeat Voldemort once and for all.
