The NZ Mint's new Chibi Coin Collection begins with the release of two coins, the Silver Harry Potter Coin and the Silver Chibi Batman Coin. Every coin in this collection will be in the Japanese art style known as “chibi” and colorized. This 2020 Silver Harry Potter coin features one of the most famous modern fictional characters: Harry Potter. The internationally acclaimed Harry Potter series is comprised of seven original novels that turned into eight films, one play, and a spin-off film semi-prequel series. This coin features the famed Harry Potter with his round glasses, lightning-bolt scar, and Gryffindor House scarf and cloak.
The obverse of the Silver Harry Potter coin displays the legal tender with the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty faces the right and wears her royal diadem. The face value of the coin is $2 Niue dollars. Inscriptions on this sign convey the Queen’s name, country, year, face value, weight, purity, and Warner Brothers copyright.
The reverse of the coin displays a colorized Harry Potter in the Japanese chibi style with an enlarged head and small body to render him as an adorable, child-like character. Harry Potter’s hair is slightly brushed aside to reveal his prominent lightning bolt scar on his forehead over his right eye. He wears his Gryffindor scarf and black school cloak with a yellow Gryffindor patch.
