This beautiful 2017 1/10 oz South Korea Gold Chiwoo Cheonwang Medal is a new issue from the South Korean Mint (KOMSCO) featuring the well-known legend - the warrior Chiwoo Cheonwang. Following the successful release of a silver medal, the collection is growing in 2017 with this gold version.
Chiwoo Cheonwang is a renowned symbol of South Korean culture and lore. He was famous for casting magical spells and controlling the weather during the battles. Numerous victories won him the mythical title of “God of War” in ancient Asian mythology. He wears an intimidating demon-like mask and casts magical spells conveying fear to enemies that seek war against the Korean Nation. His mask also served as the mascot of the Red Devils - the nickname of the passionate supporters’ club of the South Korean soccer team - during the 2002 World Cup.
This time KOMSCO presents the Chiwoo Gold Medallions inside one of four assay card with different colors (White, Red, Blue, and Black). The white cardholder has the largest share of the overall mintage, with 70% of the medallions issued packaged in the white cards.
The obverse features the image of the Chiwoo shield, which bears a depiction upon its surface of his own imposing mask worn during battle. This side also shows the issuing nation, KOMSCO mark, and the latent security image with the purity within a circle. The medal reverse depicts the image of the mythical God of War himself, atop his warhorse, with a shield in his left hand and a long spear in his right hand.
Medal Features:
- Made from .999 pure gold with a weight of 1/10 oz.
- Minted by the South Korean mint (KOMSCO).
- Maximum mintage of 25,000 medals between all four colors with 70% of the mintage in a white assay.
- Comes packaged in a white assay certificate card.
- Obverse: Depicts the shield of Chiwoo Cheonwang. Inscriptions: “KOMSCO”, “2017”, “Fine gold .999”, “1 Clay”, “Republic of Korea”
- Reverse: Showcases the figure of Chiwoo Cheonwang on horseback. His image is surrounded by the inscription of his name.
