$10 Face Value Franklin Half Dollars 90% Silver 20-Coin Roll BU (1948-1963)

Bullion Exchanges is pleased to offer this $10 Face Value Franklin Half Dollars 90% Silver 20-Coin Roll BU (1948-1963), featuring 20 Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) coins struck between 1948 and 1963. Composed of .900 silver, these half dollars not only hold substantial intrinsic value but also represent a pivotal moment in American coinage history. The Franklin Half Dollar series marked the transition from allegorical figures on U.S. coinage to portraits of significant historical Americans. This series also marked the end of what many consider the golden age of American coin artistry.

Designed by John R. Sinnock, the Franklin Half Dollar honors Benjamin Franklin, a Founding Father renowned for his contributions as a diplomat, inventor, scientist, publisher, and printer. The introduction of this series was spearheaded by Mint Director Nellie Taylor Ross, who admired Franklin’s influence on American history. The Franklin Half Dollar replaced the Walking Liberty design and was the final coin in a lineage that included other iconic designs like the Mercury Dime and Standing Liberty Quarter. Collectors appreciate this series not only for its historical significance but also because it offers an affordable opportunity to build a complete set, with no excessively rare or prohibitively expensive coins.

Coin Features:

  • Roll of twenty coins, each made from .900 fine silver with a weight of 7.15 troy oz
  • Issued between 1948 and 1963 by the U.S. Mint
  • Each coin comes in Brilliant Uncirculated Condition
  • Comes in a clear protective plastic roll containing Franklin Half Dollars for a total of $10 face value.
  • Obverse: Features a portrait of the founding father, inventor, and statesman Benjamin Franklin. This was the first coin in U.S. history meant for circulation that featured a real American rather than a symbol. Surrounding his image are the inscriptions of "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year of minting
  • Reverse: Features a portrait of the cracked Liberty Bell along with a small eagle appearing to the right which was required by law. Ironically, Benjamin Franklin opposed the idea of making the bald eagle a national symbol. The reverse also includes the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
