The First Gold Panda was struck from about 1 troy ounce. It was also produced in fractional sizes of 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. In 1983, the mint introduced the 1/20 oz version of the coin, as well as the 5 oz and 12 oz. Every year the image on the coin's reverse displays a different design of the panda bear, except for the reverse from the years 2001 and 2002, during which the reverse carried the same design. The panda is a well-known and beloved national symbol in China. Many believe the panda is the yin and yang of the universe, its black-and-white fur depicting harmony in the world. Furthermore, the panda coin can bring balance to investment portfolios and coin collections. These coins usually sell out quickly, so purchase yours today.
The obverse depicts a panda in a different playful activity in various scenes with a different design almost every year. Some showcase playful young pandas, or a mother and baby together. Other gold coin's artwork includes a panda hanging on trees, or drinking and walking near water and bamboo.
