The America the Beautiful Quarters Program

The America the Beautiful Quarters Program was inspired by the success of the 50 State Quarters Program launched in 1999 by the United States Mint. The original program featured quarters representing each of the 50 U.S. states, with unique designs on the reverse side that depicted treasured sites and symbols. Following its conclusion in 2008, Congress authorized the continuation of this program under the America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act. Unlike its predecessor, the new series was minted on brand-new blanks, offering collectors and enthusiasts a fresh take on American landscapes and historic landmarks.

The America the Beautiful Silver Quarters Series

The America the Beautiful Quarters series consists of 56 coins, each featuring a different U.S. state, territory, or federal district. Beginning in 2010, the U.S. Mint released five new coins each year, culminating in the program's final release in 2021. This series showcases the beauty of America’s national parks, forests, and historic sites, with the reverse designs selected collaboratively by the U.S. Mint, the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of the Treasury, and state or territorial executives. Each state or jurisdiction submitted four potential locations, with the most historically significant sites chosen for the coin designs.

Distinctive Features of the America the Beautiful Quarters

The America the Beautiful Quarters are available in both uncirculated and bullion versions, catering to a wide range of collectors and investors. Proof coins feature a vapor blasted matte finish and are encased in protective capsules, complete with a U.S. Mint box and mintmark. In contrast, the bullion versions boast a glossy finish and are sold in mint tubes or monster boxes. Each coin in this series is struck from 5 oz. of .999 fine silver, with a 3-inch diameter, making it five times larger than a standard quarter.
