The eagle clutches a banner in its beak that says “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, and its chest bears a shield emblazoned with the US flag. 13 stars shine above the eagle’s head, representing the original colonies. The weight, purity, denomination, and country’s name are inscribed around the rim.
