Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist artist from the late 1800s, whose work highly impacted the future of art. Although he struggled with mental illness, his paintings captured the beauty of his unparalleled perception of the world. He completed more than 2,100 paintings and sketches in his lifetime, about 43 of which were self-portraits. This Van Gogh bi-metallic coin features his most famous self-portrait from the spring of 1887.

This silver and copper coin was minted with a special process called Bi-Metal Plus. This process required completely covering an 11.5 oz copper center with 2 oz layers of .999 fine silver. These ultra-high relief coins were then given an antique finish.

The obverse of the Van Gogh coin bears the portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse of the coin features the self-portrait originally painted by Van Gogh in Paris in 1887.
