The obverse displays a majestic image of the Mexican Coat of Arms with an eagle on top of a pear cactus holding a snake in its beak and talon. The image is inside a circular design—the top half inscribing "Estados Unidos Mexicanos." The bottom half showcases an olive and oak wreath. 

The reverse displays an image of the "El Ángel" or Angel of Independence, built-in 1910 to celebrate the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, is on top of the column. She holds a laurel wreath in her hand, signifying victory, and a broken chain in the other, depicting freedom. A backdrop of the Mexican landscape features two famous volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
