About Mexican Silver Libertad Coins

These certified Mexican Silver Libertad coins are an impressive example of the excellence of Mexican Silver Coinage. The Mexican Mint, also called La Casa de Moneda de Mexico, first began to issue the Mexican Libertad Silver coin back in 1982. Since then, the demand for this coveted coin has steadily increased. The Mexican Silver Libertad was initially struck by the mint in only one weight, 1 troy ounce. However, in 1991, following the success of the 1 oz Silver Mexican Libertad, the mint began offering the fractional coins of 1/20, 1/10, ¼, and ½ oz., and in 1996 added the 2 and 5 ounce sizes.

Each Silver Libertad coin is produced with the same .999 purity silver content and an artistic, award-winning design. In 1996, the Mexican Mint changed the obverse depiction of Victoria: her arms are now outstretched as she stands in front of a more expansive view of Mexico City’s valley. These unique features of the Mexican Silver Libertad, along with its low production rate, make it a rare and highly sought-after collectible for investors and collectors around the world.

Design of Mexican Silver Libertad Coins

The obverse of each certified Mexican Silver Libertad coin boasts the ethereal Winged Victoria. She stands gracefully atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column, located in the heart of Mexico City, positioned in front of two famous volcanoes: Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. These two volcano peaks are the symbol of the unbelievable love story of an age-old princess and warrior who were heartbreakingly torn apart by death. Victoria is the symbol of the Mexican War of Independence in 1910.

The reverse side of the Libertad coin showcases the Mexican Coat of Arms - the golden eagle holding a snake in his beak while perched on a pear cactus. This image is a religious representation of the belief that good will always triumph over evil. The new versions of the Mexican Silver Libertads also feature ten different historical coat of arms framing Mexico’s official coat of arms.

Certified Mexican Silver Libertad Coins

The Mexican Libertad silver coins are certified by highly reputable coin grading companies, such as the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), both of which are specialized in assigning condition and quality ratings. Both PCGS and NGC use the Sheldon Scale (1-70) to certify the condition of the coins that these companies authenticate. Each certified Mexican Libertad received a designation containing the symbols MS (Mint State) or PF (Proof) and the corresponding grade, 70, guaranteeing that the coin has no wear or tear marks noticeable under 5x magnification.
