The obverse displays an image of the Mexican Coat of Arms: a golden eagle tightly clutching a snake in its beak and talon while perched atop a cactus. Above the eagle, the words "Estados Unidos Mexicanos” are inscribed. Surrounding the central coat of arms are coat of arms used throughout Mexico's history. The bottom features an olive and oak wreath pattern. 

The reverse features an image of "El Ángel" or Angel of Independence, a monument built in 1910 to commemorate the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. Victoria, the aptly named Roman goddess of victory, holds a laurel wreath in her outstretched hand and a broken chain in the other. The wreath and chain symbolize triumph and freedom. The famous Mexican volcanoes, Popocatepetl, and Iztaccihuatl are showcased in the background. Inscriptions on the reverse include the weight and purity of the coin.
