The Royal Mint began the world-famous Queen’s Beasts series in 2016 with the debut release of the “Lion of England” coin. This incredible collection showcases the ten heraldic beasts that “stood guard” Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Each beast bears a Coat of Arms. The beast and the coat combined represent every major royal familial line associated with the Queen’s ancestry. In this Coat of Arms, a falcon stands on top of a padlocked cage of another falcon. As another animal connected to Edward IV, the Falcon was his heavily symbolic personal badge that conveyed his struggle to claim the throne. The obverse of the Falcon coin contains the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
