This coin program honors Queen Elizabeth II’s achievement of becoming the world’s longest-reigning monarch in 2016. To honor her legacy, the coin program features the ten beasts that stood at the Queen’s coronation, each one supporting a badge of arms of a family associated with her ancestry. The first issue was the Lion of England coin in February 2016. This Unicorn of Scotland coin marks the 4th release in the collection. With a brand new, contemporary design, the magical unicorn stands on its hind legs with its front hooves dangling over the shield. The shield itself bears the Royal Badge of England. The unicorn was chosen by William I as a national symbol of Scotland. Having the unicorn wear an untethered chain around its neck symbolizes the unconquerable spirit of the Scots. 

The obverse contains the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV Diamond Diadem and exquisite earrings. 

The reverse depicts the Unicorn of Scotland rearing up on its hind legs proudly. Despite the crown and chain around its neck, the unicorn is free. In front of the unicorn is a shield with the Royal Badge of England that emblazons a lion.
