Mercanti and represents an eagle with a shield on its chest, and banner in its beak showing the words “E Pluribus Unum.” It carries arrows in its left talon and an olive branch in its right talon - the symbols of preparedness to defend the Nation, as well as the desire for peace. The 13 stars that honor the 13 original colonies are engraved above image and followed by the coin’s purity, weight, and denomination along with the engraving “United States of America.”
