The Certified Gold American Eagle

The Gold American Eagle is considered the most popular gold coin in the United States of America made of 22 karats of 91.67% fine gold. It has been minted since 1986 in four weights, from 1 oz. to 1/10 oz. and is available on the precious metals market in three options: Brilliant UncirculatedProof and Certified Gold Eagles. Certified Gold Coins are authenticated, graded and receive certification from an official grading company, such as NGC, PCGS or ICG. These notorious certification companies perform a thorough examination of the coin’s condition and quality before giving it a grade. The assigned grades vary from 1 up to 70, with 69 and 70 being the highest ones and certifying coins of outstanding quality. Coins given a grade designation of 69 have minor blemishes while 70 graded coins have no blemishes at all. Even though these grades are the most common ones, Certified Gold American Eagles with such certification are still very hard to find. After the coin is graded, it’s placed within a special label of the certification company. Beginning with the establishment of the Gold Bullion Coin Act in 1985, American Gold Eagles have been exclusively minted by the United States Mint using gold obtained only from domestic sources. Since 1986, Gold Eagles have been minted in uncirculated and proof coins, with certain exceptions in 1986, 1987, 2006 and 2009. Because the production of this coin is determined by each year’s demand, this coin series, and particularly the certified edition are very desired by investors and collectors because they are very rare and carry a higher premium.

The Design of Certified Gold American Eagle

Besides their high value, Certified Gold Eagle coins are very desired among investors and collectors due to the remarkably beautiful design of the American Gold Eagle coin. On the obverse of the coin is depicted Lady Liberty with her hair flowing against the rays of the sun and walking with confidence while holding a torch and an olive branch in her hands. She is surrounded by the 50 stars which represent the fifty states and the inscription ‘Liberty’, as well as the U.S. Capitol building depicted on the down left of the obverse side. The design belongs to one of the most famous American sculptors, Augustus Saint-Gaudens’. The reverse side of the coin contains the image of a flying male eagle that is carrying an olive branch in its talons and flying over the nest, where the female eagle is protecting its hatchlings. This depiction of the greatest American patriotic symbol proves the high importance of the family values for Americans. The author of this great representation is the famous sculptor Miley Busiek. On the reverse of the Certified Gold Eagles is also depicted its face value, weight, and the following three inscriptions: the ‘United States of America’, ‘In God We Trust’ and “E Pluribus Unum’.
