The obverse features the classic design of Lady Liberty draped in an American flag. She is carrying branches of laurel and oak in one arm, which symbolizing civil and military glory. Her other arm is outstretched in front of her.

The reverse displays a bald eagle prepared to take flight as it sits atop a rock. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "HALF DOLLAR" above and below the eagle, respectively. The phrase "E PLUIBUS UNUM" is displayed to the left of the eagle. The purity and weight are shown on the reverse as well.
