2016-W 1/2 oz Walking Liberty Half Dollar Centennial Gold Coin NGC SP 70 FR

Celebrate one of America’s most iconic coin designs with the 2016-W 1/2 oz Walking Liberty Half Dollar Centennial Gold Coin NGC SP 70 FR, available at Bullion Exchanges. Issued by the West Point Mint, this centennial release honors the 100th anniversary of Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty Half Dollar, first struck in 1916. Struck in .9999 fine 24-karat gold, this coin contains 1/2 troy ounce of pure gold and has been certified a flawless Specimen 70 (SP 70) First Releases (FR) by NGC.

The Walking Liberty Half Dollar debuted in 1916, replacing the Barber half dollar, as part of a U.S. Mint initiative to beautify American coinage. Designed by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, the coin quickly became one of the most admired designs in U.S. history. Its image of Lady Liberty, infused with movement, hope, and national pride, stood out as a bold artistic departure from earlier designs.

The series was minted until 1947, when it was replaced by the Franklin Half Dollar. However, Weinman’s Liberty lived on—his obverse design was later revived for the American Silver Eagle bullion coin, which remains the most popular silver coin in the world today. The 2016 gold centennial edition allowed collectors to celebrate 100 years of this beloved classic, struck for the first time in .9999 fine gold and in limited quantities.
