The China Mint's coin designer for the 1984 Silver Panda coin was Xie Lie. She consequently became the first woman to design a Panda coin. Chinese Silver Panda coins always feature the national animal of China, the panda. These coins are also available in gold known as the Gold Panda Coin, which was first released in 1982. The 1984 Silver Panda coin is, unfortunately, one of the most counterfeited coins. So, it is recommended to purchase graded versions of the 1984 Silver Panda, like this one from Bullion Exchanges.
The obverse of the coin always features the ancient landmark Hall of Prayers in Beijing that was completed in 1420. This hall of worship was created for the Chinese royalty and other elites to pray in. Above the image is the phrase in Kanji noting the country as “The People’s Republic of China” along with the year of mintage.
The reverse displays a parent and its cub among bamboo foliage. The cub is entranced by the bamboo branch it holds in its paws while the parent observes.
