1983 27 gram Chinese Silver Panda 10 Yuan NGC PF 68 UCAM

Chinese Silver Pandas are great coins to collect for their new annual designs and wonderful images of the worldwide beloved panda bear. The 1983  Chinese Silver Panda is the first Silver Panda coin ever released and an extremely rare coin considering its limited mintage of only 10,000. This Silver Panda was made from .900 pure silver with a weight of 27 grams. Although this coin received an NGC grade of PF 68, this coin’s average grading was 67, which means this coin is above-average quality. Purchase this fine Silver Panda coin today from Bullion Exchanges.

As the first Silver Panda coin, this won the Best Silver Coin of the Year award in 1983. The designer behind this spectacular illustration is Yu Min, a highly inventive coin designer. Chinese Silver Pandas always feature the national animal of China, the panda, and remain a popular choice for coin collectors and investors alike. This first silver coin was manufactured in response to the high success of the first Gold Panda coin struck and sold in 1982. Once these Silver Panda coins saw higher demand in the 1990s, the China Mint expanded the production of the Panda coins. Originally only made in Shanghai, now they are also produced in Shenyang, Shenzhen, and more recently, Beijing.

The obverse of the coin always features the ancient landmark Hall of Prayers in Beijing that was completed in 1420. This hall of worship was created for the Chinese royalty and other elites to pray in. Above the image is the phrase in Kanji noting the country as “The People’s Republic of China” along with the year of mintage.

The reverse displays two pandas: an adult and a cub in a small clearing. The adult holds a bamboo branch in its paws while the cub watches intrigued. The face value of the coin is on this side.
