Chinese Panda coins always feature the national animal of China, the panda. Following the successful Gold Panda coin release in 1982, the Silver Panda series began in 1983. The China Mint’s coin designer for the 1985 Silver Panda coin was also the designer for the 1984 coin, Xie Lie. She is the first woman to design a Panda coin. The 1985 Silver Panda coins are just as rare as the 1983 Silver Panda coin. But, unfortunately, this coin is more subject to counterfeit. It is highly recommended to purchase the 1985 Silver Panda coin in graded condition from reputable dealers like Bullion Exchanges.
The obverse of the coin always features the ancient landmark Hall of Prayers in Beijing that was completed in 1420. This hall was erected for the Chinese royalty and other elites to worship in. Above the image is the phrase in Kanji noting the country as “The People’s Republic of China”. Also on this side is the mintage year.
The reverse continues to feature a parent and its cub among bamboo foliage. This year’s design has the parent panda walking and looking at the cub sitting atop its back.
