1986 Empress of China 5 Yuan Silver Coin (w/Box & COA)

Celebrate Chinese heritage and artistic beauty with the 1986 Empress of China 5 Yuan Silver Coin (with Box & COA) - a remarkable numismatic treasure that captures the elegance and grace of one of history’s most iconic figures. Struck by the Shenyang Mint in .900 fine silver, this exquisite commemorative coin honors Empress Wu Zetian, the only woman in Chinese history to ascend the imperial throne in her own right. Each coin comes presented in its original display box with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA), ensuring its provenance and collectible integrity.

In 1866, the legendary Great Tea Race unfolded, an unofficial competition among 16 tea-laden ships racing from China to London to deliver the season’s first harvest. Only four sleek clippers completed the 15,000-mile voyage in under 90 days, while the rest took over 120. The Baltimore Clipper, featured on the coin’s reverse, was an American-built vessel originally designed to outrun the British fleet during the Revolutionary War. Its advanced design — a sleek hull and expansive sails, gave it unmatched speed, earning the term “clipper.” The winning ship received a bonus of one pound sterling per ton of cargo, with the captain earning a share of the profits, marking one of the most thrilling maritime contests of the 19th century.
