Post WWI, the US Mint sought to replace the Morgan Silver Dollars with a new silver dollar that symbolized peace. An official competition was held to determine the next design, and the “Peace Dollar”, designed by Anthony de Francisci, was chosen as the winner. Minting began soon after in 1921 and continued until 1928, with the mintage greatly decreased in that final year. Production then resumed again from 1934-1935, helping to stabilize the economy during the Great Depression. These particular Peace Silver Dollars arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated Condition, meaning they retain the brilliance and shine they had when they were fresh from the mint.

These silver Peace Dollars feature the profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse. The model for this coin was Francisci’s wife. Also featured on the coin is the year of mintage, the inscription “LIBERTY”, and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”

The reverse of the coin displays an eagle with an olive branch in its talons. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “PEACE” appear above and around the eagle. The face value of the coin is inscribed on the bottom of the reverse.
