After the end of WWI, the US Mint sought to replace the Morgan Silver Dollars with a new silver dollar that served as a mark of peace. The Peace Dollar, as designed by Anthony de Francisci, was chosen as the winner in the official US competition. Once decided, minting began from 1921 - 1928 and then again from 1934-1935. These Peace Silver Dollars come in Almost Uncirculated Condition, meaning there may be traces of wear at the highest points of the coin.
These silver Peace Dollars feature the profile of Lady Liberty on the obverse. The model for this coin was Francisci’s wife. Also featured on the coin is the year of mintage, the inscription “LIBERTY”, and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The reverse of the coin displays an eagle with an olive branch in its talons. The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “PEACE” appear above and around the eagle. The face value of the coin is inscribed on the bottom of the reverse.
