US paper currency notes are widely appreciated for their historical value and stunning designs. One thing all Silver Certificates have in common is the blue US Reserve Seal. The $5 Silver Certificates, however, are especially sought after for its several varying designs. This particular Silver Certificate features a wonderful image of a Native American Chief in full headdress, coining the name “Chief”. The $5 denomination is also the highest denomination for the Silver Certificates in 1899, and it was printed until the early 1920s.

The obverse of this $5 Silver Certificate portrays the image of a former Native American chief, Running Antelope of the Lokata Indian tribe. Unfortunately, he passed away before being able to see his portrait on the certificate. The text printed on this side notes the country, serial number, “SILVER CERTIFICATE”, “Five Silver Dollars”, “Payable to the Bearer on Demand”, “Washington, DC”, face value. It also includes signatures of Teehee, former Register of the Treasury, and Burke, former US Treasurer.

The reverse displays the text "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", “V”, “FIVE DOLLARS”, “SILVER CERTIFICATE”, and boldly printed 5’s to clearly represent the face value. There is also an elegantly styled border.
