1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar $1 Fine

A highly collectible early issue, the 1878-CC Morgan Silver Dollar $1 Fine represents the very beginning of one of America’s most iconic coin series. Struck at the historic Carson City Mint, this coin is composed of .900 fine silver with an actual silver weight of 0.7734 troy oz.

The Morgan Silver Dollar series was introduced in 1878 following the passage of the Bland-Allison Act, which required the U.S. government to purchase large amounts of silver for coinage. Designed by George T. Morgan, the coin quickly became a symbol of American commerce and expansion during the late 19th century.

The Carson City Mint, located in Nevada near the Comstock Lode, played a crucial role in converting locally mined silver into coinage. Coins bearing the “CC” mintmark are among the most sought-after in U.S. numismatics due to their relatively low mintages and strong association with the American Old West. Early Carson City issues like the 1878-CC are particularly prized for their historical importance and scarcity.
