During the Civil War in the US, the Confederate states established their own system of government. During this time, they also began to issue their own money as legal tender. The only caveat was the money could be redeemed when the Confederacy won the war. So since 1861 until 1864, these banknotes were printed. Most of them are hand-signed and numbered, but the war was not won by the Confederacy, which rendered these notes irredeemable after the war. You might find a rough or uneven border for these currency notes, but this is not damage. When these notes were printed, scissors or shears were used to cut them from the sheets!

The obverse design of the Confederate currency note contains an image of the famed General Stonewall Jackson. This note honors his name, just like the US later did with the JFK half dollar. Jackson was accidentally shot by his own side and passed away in 1863, however, he was a widely respected general in the Confederacy. The text on this side also includes the conditions for the validity of the Confederate currency note, date of signature, serial number, face value, and the Confederate flag and seal. The reverse is blank.
