*Please note, although these bars are brand new, they may exhibit dents on the sides.

Bullion Exchanges proudly presents one of the first releases in a new Royal Mint Series, the 100 oz Great Britain Una and the Lion Silver Bar! This Una and the Lion bar is struck from .9999 fine silver and weighs 100 troy ounces, making it a sizable addition to your growing precious metals portfolio. Part of the Great Engravers Collection, which will feature reimagined works of past Royal Mint engravers, this 100 oz silver bar is joined by a 1 oz silver bar, a 10 oz silver bar, and a 1 oz gold bar. Buyers should move quickly to claim this hefty hundred-ounce bar, as only 1,200 of these 100 oz Una and the Lion silver bars have been produced!

William Wyon, official chief engraver at the Royal Mint from 1828 to 1851, created the original design for Una and the Lion. It was originally manufactured for the gold Five-Sovereign piece commemorating the start of Queen Victoria’s reign. In Wyon’s gorgeous design, he intended for the young queen to portray the role of Una. This was considered a bold move, as a British monarch had never before been depicted as a fictional character on a coin.

“The Faerie Queene”, written by Edmund Spenser provided the inspiration for the image of Una standing next to a ferocious lion. In the famous epic poem, the beautiful Una goes on an adventure to free her parents (the King and Queen) from an evil dragon who had imprisoned them. During her journey, she met a lion, who was won over by Una’s truth, beauty, and innocence. Instead of devouring her, the lion became her protector and champion. Spenser likely intended for Una to represent Queen Elizabeth I, who was the head of the Church of England at the time.

The obverse/front of the bar features the Royal Mint logo along with the weight and purity of the bar. A faded spiral design appears in the background.

The reverse/back of the bar shows off the reinterpreted design of Una and the Lion, created by Jody Clark. In this illustration, the legendary Una stands tall while facing to the left. She holds the monarch’s orb and scepter in her hands as the wind blows gently through the strands of her hair. Una’s brave lion companion stands beside her, and together they gaze into the future.
