A timeless classic, an elegant beauty, and phenomenal work from a great artist all put together make for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. Misunderstanding of the 1890 Coinage Act by the then-mint director Robert W. Woolley led to the inception of this majestic coin.

The designer of the coin is Adolph Alexander Weinman, a German by birth but left home at the tender age of 10 to reach the United States, where he became a student of the renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Weinman had risen in popularity by 1915. The Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half Dollars are two of his extremely popular works.

The intricate and delicate designs on the obverse and reverse have been appreciated immensely by all. The inspiration for these Silver Half Dollars seems to be have been borrowed from the Sower design on the French Coin which was created by Oscar Roty. The outstretched hands and then striding forward pose of Liberty both look similar to the Sower design. The Sower is a nineteenth-century provincial figure which was turned into an American icon by Adolph A. Weinman.

The reverse also sends out a strong message with the majestic bald eagle perched on a mountain cliff with his wings unfolded showing strength and confidence which depicts America’s fearless spirit and power.

A coin that is historically significant, a long-running series, widely recognized, well-known for its artistic appeal, contains 90% silver; this is a coin that is perfect for investing in.
