20 Francs French Early Head Ceres Gold Coin Avg Circ AGW .1867 (Random Year,1849-1851)
The French 20 Francs Gold Coin was the standard for European coinage in the 19th century. It became the basis upon which other European Francs gold coins were modeled off. This 20 Francs coin features the Ceres head on its obverse. Ceres was the Roman goddess of agriculture, fertility, and motherly relationships. The head is complemented with the elements of a six-point star, and laurels. Other elements of the obverse include the inscriptions “Republique,” “Francaise” and the engraver’s name, “L. Merley. F.”
The reverse of the coin includes oak and laurel wreaths along with the denomination of the coin “20 Francs” and inscriptions “Liberte,” “Egalite,” and “Fraternite” which is the national motto of France. This series of coins will be selected based on the year available in stock. All coins will be from 1849 to 1951.
