The Peace Dollar was initially struck in 1921 when it replaced the Morgan Silver Dollar. HISTORY
The Peace dollar was in circulation from 1921 until 1928, then in 1934 and 1935, and once again introduced in 2021. A contest was held to find the best design to feature on the Peace Silver Dollar. Anthony de Francisci won, and his work appears on the coin to this day. The Peace Dollar represents the United States of America emerging as an international power after World War I, while also honoring those that served and ultimately led the country to victory and peace.
DESIGN
Originally designed by Anthony de Francisci, the Peace Dollar design depicts calm, regal imagery. The obverse showcases Lady Liberty wearing a diadem of spikes and left-facing. Inscriptions around her include “LIBERTY”, “IN GOD WE TRUST”, and the year of mintage The reverse displays a majestic bald eagle perched on a rock, facing right towards rays of light Reverse inscriptions read: “PEACE”, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, and “ONE DOLLAR”.
