What is Litecoin?
Litecoin (LTC) is one of the earliest cryptocurrencies, launched in 2011 by Charlie Lee as a faster and lighter alternative to Bitcoin. Often referred to as the “silver to Bitcoin’s gold,” Litecoin shares much of Bitcoin’s core codebase but includes key modifications to improve transaction speed and cost-efficiency.
LTC uses the Scrypt hashing algorithm and a 2.5-minute block time, making it ideal for everyday payments and merchant adoption. The network’s total supply is capped at 84 million coins, four times Bitcoin’s limit, and it includes support for features like SegWit and the Lightning Network.
Litecoin is widely supported across exchanges, wallets, and point-of-sale systems, giving it strong utility in crypto-based commerce. Its long track record, high liquidity, and low fees have made it a consistent player in the digital asset ecosystem.
The price of LTC is influenced by Bitcoin’s performance, transaction volume, halving cycles, and macroeconomic conditions affecting crypto markets overall.
Bullion Exchanges accepts cryptocurrencies via BitPay for the purchase of gold, silver, platinum, and more—making it easy to convert this fast and reliable digital currency into tangible investments.
