One of the most popular Canadian silver coins are the Birds of Prey Silver Coin series. Besides the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, the Canadian Birds of Prey coins are the second most desired pieces of the Canadian coinage. This 4-coin collection commemorates Canada’s most iconic birds. The series was released in 2014 and 2015 by the Royal Canadian Mint, as a celebration of the Canadian native bird-life.

Each RCM birds of prey coin has the one-ounce weight made of .9999 finest silver and has a face value of $5 Canadian dollars. Their remarkably beautiful design features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse side, drafted by Susanna Blunt. On the reverse side of the coins is a depiction of the Canadian birds: the peregrine falcon, the bald eagle, the red-tailed hawk and the horned owl.

These designs are courtesy of Emily Damstra and each of these four coins was produced of 1 million standard silver bullion pieces. The proof and high relief editions are very restricted. Only the Silver Peregrine and the Silver Bald Eagle are also available in proof versions of 20,000 and respectively 7,500 items each.

The last two coins are expected to be minted in similar proof numbers. This is why these impressive Canadian Bird coins are extremely desired by numismatists. The Birds of Canada Series coins are definitely a great gift for special occasions.
